Timaru Booksellers is an independent bookshop on the main street of Timaru: North end, close to the Bay Hill /Port Loop lights and across the road from the Ice Ice Baby Ice cream Parlour. First known as Bay Hill Books, we opened in July 2020. We stock a curated selection of wonderful new and secondhand books and run many exciting events: authors, book clubs, poetry readings, storytime and more. We have a healthy amount of chaos at any given moment, including free range babies, children, dogs, goats and booklovers. The Twizel Bookshop opened in 2017 and is found inside the Hydro Cafe in the Twizel Marketplace. While only 12sqm, it is a literary tardis and defies the usual laws of space and time. We are small and mighty. We are tiny and terrific. We are an independent bookshop in the heart of the Mackenzie Country, South Canterbury, New Zealand. We are readers and writers, illustrators and editors, artists and artisans, chronic enthusiasts and stargazers, highland wanderers and book lovers. We are a little shop, in a little town, close to the mountains and pretty far from everywhere - but books make our world a bigger, closer place. Books lend us someone else's brain for a moment. Books throw our gaze on places we've never been. If reading a book is an experience, then the value of that experience lies in the depth of feeling. We, in our little shop, want you to feel something. Feel angry. Feel offended. Feel disappointed. Feel surprised. Feel thrilled. Feel solidarity. Feel sadness. Feel wonder. Feel. Read.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
