Canterbury Forests & Foothills: a Walking and Tramping Guide

Author(s): Pat Barrett

Walks, Hikes + Tramps

CANTERBURY FOOTHILLS AND FORESTS is very well researched and written, illustrated with numerous good colour photographs and maps, and caters to the 'one day I'll do it' market as well as to the serious walker/tramper and not a few tourists. Pat Barrett, a very experienced tramper - and a superb photographer - has drawn together for the first time all the marked walking tracks, huts and recognised tramping routes of the foothills region, many of which have never before been documented in this form. Every route is graded (from easy to super-hard) with an estimate of the walking time involved. Other details include access information (including phone numbers for landowners where applicable), descriptions of the best route available, and notes on the attractions of the particular track/peak, the weather and terrain, and equipment you'd need to carry. First published 2002.
